Path of Exile Item Upgrading

The ability to upgrade items allows players to enhance their weapons and gear by adding new affixes, boosting the base stats of the item or adding additional perks. To upgrade an item, the player has to have it in their inventory, as well as access to the kiln.

Items that have weak bases, such as rings, can be upgraded into a stronger base. Items with strong bases, like the Titans of eth have little change in their stats.

There are three kinds of upgrade components including universal upgrades, prefix upgrades, and suffix upgrades. Universal upgrades, which include gems, are able to be used in any type of equipment and provide smaller bonuses than upgrade components that are restricted to a specific type. Leveling

Path of Exile's upgrade system differs from previous versions in several fundamental ways. Gear is now classified into tracks, and each item can only be upgraded a certain number of times before it is "leveled out." The upgrade costs increase with each level, but the materials required do not. This allows players to focus their efforts on a few essential items and maximize their impact, rather than spreading out the upgrade costs across multiple pieces.

This allows the item to receive new upgrade components, and have a greater chance of success. This bonus is known as the Artisan's Power and it resets to 0 in the event of failure, or increases when the upgrade succeeds.

Once a piece of gear is upgraded to its maximum level it is able to receive affixes that will enhance its capabilities. The number of affixes that are available depends on the item's base. For example, a rare or unique weapon with a normal base will have no more than two affixes available for it, whereas legendary armors can have up to eight affixes for it.

Each upgrade step requires a specific number of Flightstones or Crests, depending on whether the item is at its current level and what slot it is located in. Weapons usually require more Flightstones than other equipment.

If an item fails to reach its max level The NPC will offer the player the option of transfer it to another character and re-infuse it with another set of upgrades. This procedure can take as long as two hours, and costs the same amount of material. However, it has a lower rate of success.
